Mrs. Marjorie (Marj) Shaw received the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club’s Senior Citizen of the Year Award during the April 18, 2012 luncheon meeting.  Mrs. Shaw was nominated by Valerie A. Muratori, Executive Director of Saratoga Bridges.  

 

Mrs. Muratori remarked, “Many people throughout our community have been very fortunate to receive her generosity of time, expertise, experiences, knowledge, enthusiasm and support.  Her strong sense of faith provides her with the foundation to be an invaluable role model  in our community.”  

 

Mrs. Shaw numerous accomplishments, include:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

o   Secretary of Saratoga Bridges Board, formerly Vice President

o   Chair of the Saratoga Bridges Guardianship Committee and active membership recruiter

o   Member of the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary for over 50 years

o   Sunday School teacher, piano and choir member—The Ballston Center Presbyterian Church

o   Usher at Proctors Theater

o   Member of the Dunning Street Cemetery Association for the Town of Malta

o   Active member of the Malta Senior Center

o   Former Special Olympics Coach, American Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator and 4-H Leader

o   Samaritan’s Purse Coordinator shipping school supplies, personal hygiene items and Christmas gifts to children in Africa.

 

She is retired from the Saratoga Hospital Lab.  She and her husband, Bill, have been married 60 years.  They have six children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchild.  She plays the piano, sings, enjoys reading and watching her family play sports.

 

Mrs. Shaw says,   “If you give your time, energy and financial resources YOU in turn will be rewarded”.
